Proposing with a Tulip

Jewellery with a floral theme is always popular and you can find many designs ranging all the way from cute and intricate to clean and modern. We prefer designs that are not too on the nose and are more inclined to draw inspiration from life rather than make our jewellery lifelike. However, sometimes a piece of nature is so pretty that we can use the shape while still keeping the design nice and clean.

D sent us these pictures as inspiration for an engagement ring for his girlfriend who loves tulips (who doesn’t?). There was something that he liked in the ring with diamonds (above, right) – but he did not want diamonds on his ring. He also wanted a more clean and wearable ring for his girlfriend and with the shape of the tulip more like the real ones in the picture above, left.

After selecting the pink sapphire he wanted in the tulip, we sketched out our version of the ring and used blutack to create and try out the shape.

We refined the sketch to get the right shape of the ring as well as the flower petals

The fitting/viewing of the ring – checking that the ring looks good before we set the Sapphire. Since this ring was made without the girlfriend being involved, we did not do a fitting of size. Instead, we had a viewing so that D could follow the progress of the ring.
